Establishment of Silsila-e-Azeemia In July 1960, after having its approval from the Muhammad, Hassan Ukhra Syed Muhammad Azeem Burkhiya a.k.a. Qalander Baba Auliya founded the Azeemia order.
The goal of Azeemia is to enhance higher awareness through spiritual exercises like dhikr, meditation, breathing and others. It encompasses both the spiritual sections viz. Spiritual Association (Salook) and the Raptness (Juzb). Before his demise in 1979, Qalandar Baba designated Shaykh Khwaja Shamsuddin Azeemi as his spiritual heir.
Sufi Master Azeemi a.k.a. Silsila-e-Azeemia, 78, is the current patriarch of the order. Outside the Sufi circle, he is considered by many in Pakistan as the leading authority on Parapsychology and Meditation. FOUNDER Hassan Ukhra Sayyed Muhammad Azeem Barkhiya, commonly known as Qalandar Baba Auliya, is also the founder of the Azeemia Sufi Order. Names and Titles Hassan Ukhra Sayyed Muhammed Azeem Barkhiya Hassan Ukhra Is the title given by Muhammad, through the Owaisian style, and is referred as such in his presence.
Sayyed Title by virtue of being of noble descent (on both paternal and maternal sides) - a descendent of Muhammad through Hazrat Imam Hassan Askari. Muhammad Azeem Is the name given by his parents. The Azeemia Order is named after him.
Barkhiya Owing to his poetical interests he had adopted the alias Barkhiya. Huzoor Qalandar Baba Auliya (R.A) His followers believe that he is known to the terrestrial and celestial angels and in the highest sphere as Qalandar Baba Auliya due to his rank of Qalandar. Qalandar A Qalandar is a person who enjoys a neutral and a free mind, he after liberating from spatio-temporal restraints learns to have direct link with God, Almighty and experiences the ecstasy and joy of the nearness of Allah, thus he perceives the whole Truth. Such persons are called the friends of God. His perceptive faculties go beyond the physical realm.
He ascends from the material realm to the heights where he witnesses the Divine Unity. This is the zone of Taqveen or the Divine Administration. The Qalandar can free himself from the grip of time and space. All creatures become subservient to them. He also becomes a bridge and a connection between the Creator and the creation because of the teachings of Muhammad he assimilates. He establishes his link with his Lord Creator without losing his touch with the creatures, leading to a blissful life filled with the pleasure of knowing the realities. Every avenue of the unseen realm is open to him to the last.
Knowledge of secrets of the command Kun (Be!) is bestowed upon him and a state of ecstasy remains prevalent upon his soul. After negating all deities, including his own self, he enjoys witnessing the Glory of the Lord Almighty, Allah. Since the Qalandar is connected with the Divine Being, they do not experience negative desires of greed, power and control.
They have the conduct of the prophets and serve humanity according to the Divine Will. Baba Respectful Urdu term for a father figure i.e.
A father, grandfather or any old man. On its own, but with the common suffix viz. Babaji or Babajan, it means 'dear father'. Auliya In Arabic 'Auliya' is the plural of 'wali' which means Saints, literally it means 'friends of Allah', (here it is used in a singular sense owing to its derivation through Persian). Worldly Life Birth Huzoor Qalandar Baba Auliya (R.A) was born in 1898 in the town of Khorja, District Buland Shehr, Uttar Pradesh, India. His parents named him Mohammad Azeem. His family lineage goes back to Hazarat Imam Hassan Askari.
Early Education He got his primary education from a local school of the town Khorja. Till High school he studied in Buland Shehr and then took admission in Aligarh Muslim University for Intermediate. Over View of Life Qalandar Baba's mother died leaving six children. One sister was older and all others were much younger than he was. Baba Tajuddin advised him to get married. He married a follower of Baba Tajuddin in Delhi and settled there.
But in 1947, during the partition of India and Pakistan, Qalandar Baba Awliya emigrated to Karachi in Pakistan with his father, siblings and family. He rented an old house near Lee Market. The Commissioner for Rehabilitation, who was a follower of Baba Tajuddin, requested him to fill an application so that he could be granted a house. He did not take any notice of his advice and continued to stay in the rented house. Career After marriage, Qalandar Baba settled in Delhi. He became a freelance journalist for different newspapers and magazines. He also proof-read and corrected the works of the contemporary poets.
He was approached by people who were interested in Tassawuf (Spiritual knowledge) and held discussions with them on the subject. After emigrating to Karachi he repaired domestic electrical equipment until he got the job of the sub editor of the daily newspaper Dawn.
He also worked for the Naqaad for some time. He edited many magazines, and also published many stories in serial form. Last Days He passed away on 27 January 1979, in Karachi, Pakistan. Every year on this date his Urs is held, which is attended by thousands of people from all over the world. During Urs many seminars and workshops are held. There are organised sessions of meditation under the instruction of the present Sufi Master. Qalandar Baba Auliya (R.A) left a widow, two sons and two daughters.
He passed his spiritual inheritance to Khwaja Shamsuddin Azeemi, his able Disciple. Noble Character Praise Worthy Qualities Hazoor Qalandar Baba Auliya's pleasing manners were such that comparable examples can hardly be found.
From the beginning, sincerity was evident in his nature and dignity was apparent in his personality. Consoling those in despair, taking on others' problems, and not just realising others' pains as one's own but sharing even greatly in the hopes to alleviate the sufferings of others, these were noble qualities, which his blessed being began to express from the very outset. Disposition Hazoor Qalandar Baba Auliya was intellectually disposed and had a gentle and friendly nature. He was a poet and philosopher and possessed extensive knowledge. He was polite, wise and prudent, whilst also humorous. When any visitor or friend came to him, he was calming and hospitable and listened to what he or she had to say to their satisfaction.
Amongst his closest friends in particular as well as the public in general, he was considered very respectable and dignified. And, he was very pleasing and adored by everyone. Wherever he went, people cheerfully received him with great enthusiasm.
And, people listened to whatever he had to say very attentively. In the early period, he was also interested in chess being an expert in the game, so much so, that he knew of over a hundred moves. Some Habits Qalandar Baba was very meticulous and organised in his day to day life and careful with his nourishment, eating no more than two chapattis a day and sometimes ate only one. During his learning of Elohistic Knowledge and even afterwards, he never slept for more than two and a half to three hours.
Most of the time he kept silent, sometimes becoming unaccustomed to conversation. He often experienced phases of spiritual ecstasy and selflessness. Spiritual Training & Initiation Proper arrangements of training for the selected ones are made by Allah, the Almighty and Qalandar Baba Auliya was no exception to it.
During his stay in Aligarh an inclination towards darveshi was developed in him and he started spending mist of his time in a small room situated in the cemetery of Maulana Kabli. He used to go there early in the morning and would come back late in the evening. Around this time, he used to visit his grand maternal uncle, who was the great Baba Tajuddin Nagpuri.
Teacher of teachers, Knower of Divine Secrets, Baba Tajuddin advised him to stay in Nagpur for spiritual training. Upon learning his son's intention to learn spiritual knowledge, Qalandar Baba's father came to Nagpur to persuade his son to complete his academic education. Baba Tajuddin relied to his father that if he received any further such education, he would not be useful to him. His father left his son to follow his own heart. Accordingly, Qalandar Baba Auliya decided to remain. The second part of his spiritual training, lasting nine years, was thus spent under the vigilant guidance of his maternal grandfather Baba Tajuddin Nagpuri, whose details are related in the book 'Memoirs of Tajuddin Baba'.
In 1956, when Qutub-e-Irshad Hazrat Abu'l Faiz Qalandar Ali Suhrawardi (Hazrat Jee) visited Karachi, Qalandar Baba Auliya went for an audience with him and requested to be initiated as one of his disciples. Hazrat Jee told him to come to his hotel room at three o'clock in the morning. It was bitter cold in the early morning when he reached the Grand Hotel, situated on McLeod Road and waited seated on the doorsteps an hour early. At precisely three o'clock, Hazrat Jee opened the door and asked him to come inside. He instructed him to sit before him, whereupon he blew on his forehead three times. The first caused him to witness the Realm of the Souls ('Alam-e-Arwah); the second revealed the Realms of Angelic and Potent natures and the third enabled him to behold the High Throne (Arsh-e-Mualla).
Hazrat Abu'l Faiz Qalandar Ali Suhrawardi then completed the course of teachings of Qutub-e-Irshad in three weeks and declared Qalandar Baba Auliya as his Khalifa (delegate). After that, further spiritual education was imparted to him by the blessed Shaikh Najmuddin Kubra in spirit (D:1189 CE.). This enabled him to rise to the point where he received the highest form of the Divinely Inspired Knowledge ('Ilm-e-ladunni) directly from the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). Because of his affiliation with the Holy Prophet(P.B.U.H), he was accorded the opportunity of appearing before the Divine Presence of the Lord Creator, Allah Almighty Himself, who then taught him knowledge of His mysteries and secrets. It was during this period that Qalandar Baba Auliya (R.A) remained continuously awake for ten days and ten nights consecutively and recited Surah Ikhlas of the Holy Quran several hundreds of times in the tahajjud prayers. Miracles Possessor of Insinuated Knowledge, knower of the secrets of the Command 'Be' and its implementations, Proclaimer of reality, His Divine Grace Qalandar Baba Auliya was a man of signs and wonders, but by nature he was a very cautious person and avoided performance of wonder-workings (karamat). But despite his careful attitude many wonder workings took place by him.
Khawaja Shamsuddin Azeemi wrote these wonder-workings in his book 'Tazkara Qalander Baba Aauliyha (R.A)'. Pigeon That Came To Life Pigeon keeping was my hobby. Once a dove joined the flock of pigeon and started living with them. The dove was crossed with on of the pigeons. When she laid eggs and the chicks hatched out they were extraordinary pretty.
They had black wings. Rest of the body was pure white. They were so attractive that every one would praise them for their beauty.
One day, one of these pigeons fell prey to a cat. I chased the cat. By the time I reached the cat on the roof. The cat had killed the pigeons and was busy in devouring on the prey.
Tears came to my eyes with grief and anger. In that state of shock I came to His Divine Grace Qalandar Baba Auliya and in a very hurt tone told him that cat killed my pigeon. He said,?It happens so.??I am at loss to understand that how a cat could dare to prey on my pigeons in your presence.?
And went to kitchen with a heavy heart. His divine Grace called out my name twice. Grief and anger had made me arrogant and I ignored his calls. When came out of the kitchen. I saw my pigeon present in the compound.
I could not believe my eyes. I ran upstairs and found feathers and blood spots on the roof. I felt ashamed of myself. Came down and fell on the feet of His Divine Grace and apologized for my indecorous behavior. Distributed all the pigeons before that evening in order to get rid of them.
Deaf & Dumb Girl A born deaf and dumb girl was brought to his Divine Grace Qalandar Baba Auliya. Those who have been close to Baba Jee know it well that he was a very cautious person by nature and avoided any performance of wonder working. God knows in what state he was on that day. He addressed the girl and asked her name. The dumb girl naturally remained mute. He asked her again, 'Tell, what is your name??
She kept staring in silence. Now he was angry he lifted his hand as if to hit her and said in an enraged tone,?Tell what is your name?? And to our surprise she uttered her name and started speaking normally thereafter. I think she was sixteen or seventeen at that time.
Spiritual Healing of Tumor Once a lady visited His Divine grace Qalandar Baba Auliya (R.A) and told him that there was a tumor preventing her to bear children. ``I am otherwise a contented person but due to my inability to bear children my husband is insisting on for second marriage`` and after saying this she started crying, she drew near to Qalandar Baba Auliya (R.A) and placed her head on his chest. Tears not only soaked the shirt but affected his heart as well, getting up, he told her to lie down straight.
Recited something and blew upon his index figure and made a cross where the tumor was supposed to be. When she was tested by the doctors they found that tumor was no more there. Allah, the Most Exalted also blessed her with children after that. Work Silsila Azeemia inherited the following books to spread the teachings of His Divine Grace Qalandar Baba Awliya: 1- Ruba'iyat-e-Qalandar Baba Auliya - A valued collection of enlightening mystical qautrains (spiritual poetry). 2- Loh-o-Qalam (The Pen and the Scripturum) - A treasure of divine knowledge of mysteries and secrets, explaining the Divine laws of the Creator and how they operate in the universe. 3- Tazkira-e-Tajuddin Baba (blessed be he) - An authentic work of metaphysical sciences and scientific interpretations of divine and wonderous work performed by spiritual people.
In addition, Qalandar Baba Auliya left numerous maps and diagrams of the visible and invisible realms, the realms of divine, angelic and potent natures, and details pertaining to the creation of the heavens and the earth and the control of the universe. He also began the publication of the monthly magazine called Roohani Digest in December 1978. The Azeemia Trust he formed in Karachi acquired two plots of land.
One is now his earthly resting place and on the other, the Master established a Khanqah called the Muraqba Hall.
